The 2012 NRMP program director survey1 lists personal statements as the third most common factor used in selecting applicants to interview, behind only USMLE scores and letters of recommendation. Program directors value the personal statement because it offers them a glimpse at the person behind the application. Since applicants are free to present themselves in the best possible light, the personal statement is often used to reject applicants who fail to impress. As such, you need to view the personal statement as a unique chance to create an initial impression that warrants further investigation through the interview process. This is one of the most important application documents you will ever write and should be taken very seriously.

Our MD application editing team, led by a Harvard-trained program director, has years of combined experience in the American residency and fellowship application process. We use that experience to provide in-depth personal statement content analysis and overhaul, improving your personal statement with the goal of helping you obtain residency or fellowship interviews. Our team knows what successful applicants write and help you achieve a similar level of written excellence in your personal statement. Each personal statement receives a complementary second review by our editing staff, giving you the opportunity to incorporate changes suggested by your MD editor prior to the final review.

As with all our application editing services, we do not offer tiered personal statement editing. While it is common to offer various degrees of editing assistance, we feel strongly that every document we touch deserves our best work, and as such we only offer you our best. Additional editing revisions are available beyond the standard 2 rounds of editing currently offered. This service is only available for documents that have previously been edited by the physician editors at editingMD.com.
